What is the process to get my games digitally distributed?

Digital distribution of your content is easy using ActiveMARK™. The first step is to download the ActiveMARK Packaging Central Application. The packing process will protect your content, build an installer and upload the finished product for distribution.

What are some common pitfalls for first time developers?

  • Download size:
    • Time to download significantly affects the ratio of people who start to download your game and those who actually purchase the game. This rate of download initiations to purchases is termed conversion rate and will be displayed in your online sales reports.
    • Small casual titles should aim for < 5MB, more involved casual titles should aim for < 10MB.
    • Core titles should look into ways to decrease the file size. Content compression is a common addition to digitally downloaded games.
  • Game difficulty and appeal:
    • When using digital distribution, you will need to ensure your game is easy to learn and hooks the player within the trial period.
    • Research popular casual games to gather ideas for trial criteria.
  • External Links:
    • All external links inside your game must be removed before uploading your game to the Trymedia network for distribution to our affiliate sites.
    • All major distribution sites will require no links to your site – they will not make any exceptions for your game.
    • You may keep links inside of your game only on distribution sites that you control.

How do I secure placement on Trymedia's network?

  • Contact your account representative to verify you have the proper agreement signed to distribute your game on the Trymedia network. Your game will automatically be presented to our affiliates as suitable content for distribution.

How do I secure placement on external networks?

  • We encourage all of our developers and publishers to seek distribution on all external distribution channels.
  • Trymedia does not represent developers or publishers to external distributors outside of the Trymedia network. Contact your account representative to gather contract information for distribution channels and trusted agents.
  • We strongly suggest all developers employ an industry professional to review your contract with new distribution channels, publishers and agents. Contact your account representative for a list of trusted agents and publishers.

How many copies will I sell?

Just like retail sales, the number of copies you sell varies significantly with the appeal of your game to the market and the marketing exposure. Fortunately, there are many things you can do as a developer increase the digital marketing exposure and appeal of your game.

Casual Game Titles

A small casual game studio creating slightly above-average selling titles will need to release multiple titles a year. Contact your account representative for more detailed information on royalty rates and distribution reach. Unfortunately Trymedia can not disclose estimated royalty rates or sales numbers for portals outside the Trymedia Network we will however introduce you to agents who can help you with your business planning.

Big Budget Game Titles

For larger budget titles normally sold in retail locations, digital distribution is a good way to quickly increase the customer base for your title. Additionally, games no longer receiving retail marketing and shelf space will often continue to sell digitally, especially if the title has addictive gameplay.

Trymedia has existing relationships with many publishers, contact us if you have any questions about distribution of a title
owned or exclusively distributed by a publisher.
